Environmental Impact Report
Dyer Mountain Associates (DMA) completed a two year exhaustive review of potential impacts the project might have on the environment and surrounding areas. The findings of this review are now available in the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR). The report identifies potential issues and proposes remedies. DMA is very pleased that the proposed remedies are all within DMA's ability to implement. In fact, through this process, DMA's commitment to the environment is stronger and more steadfast than ever.
The process
The general public had until May 27, 2005 to study the findings and submit written comment to the county. A public hearing was held on May 4, 2005 to consider the findings and hear testimony from the general public. After the May 27 deadline, the county evaluated submitted comments and considered all testimony. In spring 2006, Dyer Mountain submitted a revised draft of the Environment Impact Report. On August 25, 2006, the comment period on the RDEIR ended and on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, the Lassen County Planning Commission held a public meeting, which resulted in a recommendation of approval from the Planning Commission to the Lassen County Board of Supervisors. If the Board finds no other significant environmental impacts to consider, the project will be considered for final approval.
Key findings include
- Dyer Mountain will have a positive impact on job creation in the region. When the resort is completed, an estimated 600 permanent jobs and 1,200 seasonal jobs will be created.
- Dyer Mountain should provide a nice boost to the local economy
- Dyer Mountain will become the largest private sector employer in the county resulting in thousands of dollars into the local economy as monthly payroll
- Dyer Mountain will provide a huge increase in the local tax base, benefiting schools, and other tax funded entities.
